“If you don’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love anybody else?” — Rupaul.
I took a sabbatical from all of my social media platforms to heal and balance my trifecta — aka mind, body and spirit. I talk the talk and walk the walk because I have a child that looks to me for guidance. It was a chance to work on myself that can be hard to do as a single parent. Helping others is my life purpose. But, I knew that if I continued to avoid my self-care I wouldn’t be capable of talking the talk and walking the walk. I would become a fake.
This last year has been one of extreme highs and definitely extreme lows on the planet. As a single parent, you probably had to deal with negative situations that you didn’t anticipate. Many events can lead to an imbalance in your mind, body and spirit, but there are steps you can take to not only get your power back, but also your sanity!
So what are you doing to balance your mind, body and spirit in 2018? Are you going to continue walking around the office gossiping about your fellow employees? Are you going to continue to fill your head with mind-numbing “reality television” on a daily basis? Are you going to remain in a relationship that has served its purpose just for the sake of stability?
As a single parent, it can be challenging to balance the mind, body and spirit because you wear multiple hats. But, if you want to be at your best you need to take the necessary steps for self-care. Self-care is a gift and you deserve to be whole.
You can’t be whole when you’re in pieces! How do you promote self-care when you’re a single parent and the mind, body and spirit are out of balance?
There are steps you can take to help yourself.
For starters, look within and ask yourself the tough questions regarding your body. If you want to shed a few pounds, do the necessary work no matter how scrumptious the donuts look at the local bakery.
Secondly, instead of hanging around the “crabs in the bucket,” be the one that stares into the bucket. Surround yourself with individuals that give mental stimulation as well as encouragement on difficult days. Remember, consistently negative and complaining people don’t want you to go higher; they want you to remain at their level or worse.
And finally, if you once practiced a particular religion, maybe you should get back into your religious practices in order to heal your spiritual side. Whether you believe in God, Allah, Buddha, or the coffee cup next to you, take some time to study your religion.
No excuses.
